Forest Villain Number One

Forest Villain Number One’s headdress was not just designed for it’s look, the aim of it’s design was to deliberately make it difficult for the audience to see the actors face, while still maintaining a look that made him ominous when he confronted the Small One.

Sandra Elizabeth Simpson, costume designer and Carl B Harrison, director decided to do this because Forest Villain Two was such a big visual looking character. His look was so defined. As his whole face was completely of a synthetic quality it was evident that if he was in the same frame as Forest Villain Number One the reality and fantasy might clash, so with just a little extra netting and cloth framing his face this did not become an issue.

Feather Girl Dress

The Small One and the Feather Girl scene was cut from the film. Never the less in preparation for what we thought we were going to use, costumes were still made.

Like the Feather Man she has elaborate feathers all over her costume, again this was a sign of wealth before Lord Akrifa took over Marimdorph.

Feather Man

The cloth that was used for the dress itself was very refractive in its colour. Depending on what angle you saw it from, it had chameleon colour changing qualities.

If you look at a segment of story boards from the Small One and Feather Girl scene you will get a feeling of how the costume might have looked in the shot.

The Small One’s Evil Fathers Costume

Very Simple and very functional in design, sand can simply be brushed off and the half face visor stops the sand from entering the face orifices.
